SUBMARINE CABLE
The off-shore oil extraction activity has been constantly increasing consecuently more and more platforms are being installed all over the world.
To supply power and communication for the extraction activity, it is necessary to interconnect the plataforms with subsea cables.
Power and fiber optic cables are used in the oil industry to distribute electricity and data as well as to supply and monitoring summersible pumps.
Submarine cables are designed to withstand severe hambiental conditions in deep waters.
Inside the core, the cable can allow different types of conductors for low and high voltage as well as fiber optic or a combination of them (composite cables)
A.Copper conductors are sealed to evoid water penetration in the interstices of strand .
B.Medium and High Voltage insulation is dry cured XLPE-TR .
The optical element consist of an hermetically sealed stainless steel tube containing optical fibers.
The steel tube provides all the required protection for the fibers against hydrostatic pressure and mechanical compression stress and at the same time serves as an effective hydrogen barrier.
Inside the tube optical fibers are surrounded by a water blocking compound (tixo tropic jelly).
The armor consist of asphalt impregnated galvanized steel wires and an overall HDPE jacket or individually HDPE insulated galvanized steel wires.
Both armoring construction are intented to protect the core of cable against longitudinal tensil stress and any mechanical abuse during installation , operation and repair conditions.
The hard HDPE jacket represents an excellent mechanical protection and water proof barrier
